FOUR CHARPAK SCHOLARSHIP OF EXCELLENCE PROGRAMMES


OVERVIEW

Four different scholarship programmes are designed for Indian students who wish to go to France for studies or training. Through these programmes, Indian students could get financial assistance for staying in recognized French Institutes or Universities :

  • for short term study or internship;
  • for one or two semesters study in the frame of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course;
  • for short term or for one or two semesters study in the frame of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course (for students going in the frame of a bilateral exchange agreement with French Higher Education Institutions)
  • for six months work in a laboratory in the frame of PhD research.


Please note : Language of teaching

  • if courses are taught in French, a good level of French is required. Some French Institutes or Universities could demand a certified level.
  • if courses are taught in English, no level of French is required for the award of these scholarships.


Students who would like to learn French language before their departure to France and to attend cultural programmes can contact any of the 17 Alliances Françaises in India.


1st - Training or Internship programme – Programme de bourses de formation et stage


Short term scholarships avail an opportunity to Indian students who are enrolled for bachelor or master degree in Indian Institutes and Universities of Engineering to pursue training or internship in French institutions for three months period (May to July).


2nd- Bachelor and Master programme - Programme de bourses de Licence et Master


Long term (1-2 years) scholarships to provide opportunities to Indian students of outstanding academic records to follow courses and obtain Bachelor/Master degree from French Institutes or Universities.
This year, priority will be given to the following disciplines and topics :

  • Architecture: all aspects of architecture studies
  • Biotechnology: diverse fields of study such as health, plant, agriculture, food processing, pharmaceutical, etc...,
  • Aeronautics and Aerospace: Proposal from any related filed/discipline of Aeronautics and Aerospace will be considered.
  • Civil nuclear and renewable energy: any topic such as nuclear technology, nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, nuclear safety, radiation protection, energy efficiency, solar energy, wind energy, bio fuel etc..
  • European Studies: all fields of studies are eligible
  • Mathematics: all fields of fundamental and applied mathematics
  • Nanotechnology: nanosciences applied to any field or domain.
  • Water Sciences: any field in water sciences such as agriculture, climate change, conservation, technology & engineering, purification, supply of drinkable water, treatment & health, etc.

However, 1/3 part of the total scholarships will be ear marked to all others disciplines and topics.


3rd - Exchange programme – Programme de bourses d’échange


Short term scholarships (from three months to one or two semesters) can be awarded to students enrolled for bachelor or master degree in Indian Institutes or Universities which have signed a bilateral exchange agreement with French Higher Education Institutions.


4th - Research programme – Programme de bourses de recherche


Research scholarships are awarded to highly qualified PhD candidates (enrolled in Indian University or Institute) for conducting research projects in France (during 3 to 6 months). The aim of this program is to avail an opportunity for young researcher to carry out part of their research work at French institutes or universities and to familiarize themselves with the French research activities

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS


1st - Training or Internship programme - Programme de bourses de formation et stage

Applicant must:

  • be 30 years old maximum
  • be currently studying or just completed his/her courses in India
  • produce a NOC from the Institute or University in India where he/she is working/studying currently
  • produce a produce a statement of purpose, highlighting the reasons for choosing France and the institution to which he/se has applied/been admitted and his/her plans upon completion of the course. The student must also justify why he/she would be a worthy candidate for the scholarship.
  • produce detailed Curriculum Vitae and attested pass certificates and ongoing semesters’ mark/grade sheet
  • produce at least a correspondence to show that he/she is in the process of getting invitation/acceptance letter from an higher educational institution in France or from a French company at the time filling the online application. The confirmed invitation/acceptance letter must be produced latest by 31st March.


2nd - Exchange Programme: Programme de bourses d’échange

Applicant must:

  • be 30 years old maximum
  • be currently studying or just completed his/her courses
  • produce a produce a statement of purpose, highlighting the reasons for choosing France and the institution to which he/se has applied/been admitted and his/her plans upon completion of the course. The student must also justify why he/she would be a worthy candidate for the scholarship.
  • produce detailed Curriculum Vitae and attested pass certificates and ongoing semesters’ mark/grade sheet
  • produce a NOC from the Institute or University in India where he/she is working/studying currently
  • have a bilateral cooperation between the Institute or University he/she is studying in India and the Institute, University, Laboratory where he/she intends to do the exchange program
  • produce at least a correspondence to show that he/she is in the process of getting invitation/acceptance letter from an higher educational institution in France at the time filling the online application. The confirmed invitation/acceptance letter must be produced latest by 10th June.


3rd - Bachelor or Master programme - Programme de bourses de Licence et Master


For Bachelor, applicant must:

  • be 22 years maximum for bachelor program
  • have passed X+2 with a minimum of 60% marks for bachelor program and X+5 with a minimum of 60% for master program
  • be currently studying or just completed his/her courses in a higher education institution
  • produce a statement of purpose, highlighting the reasons for choosing France and the institution to which he/se has applied/been admitted and his/her plans upon completion of the course. The student must also justify why he/she would be a worthy candidate for the scholarship.
  • produce detailed Curriculum Vitae, attested pass certificates and mark/grade sheets
  • produce at least a correspondence to show that he/she is in the process of getting admission from an higher educational institution in France at the time filling the online application. The confirmed admission letter must be produced latest by 10th June.


For Master, applicant must:

  • be 30 years old maximum
  • be currently studying or just completed his/her courses in a higher education institution
  • produce a statement of purpose, highlighting the reasons for choosing France and the institution to which he/se has applied/been admitted and his/her plans upon completion of the course. The student must also justify why he/she would be a worthy candidate for the scholarship.
  • produce detailed Curriculum Vitae, attested pass certificates and mark/grade sheets
  • produce at least a correspondence to show that he/she is in the process of getting admission from an higher educational institution in France at the time filling the online application. The confirmed admission letter must be produced latest by 10th June.


Please note:

Indian students already in a French Higher Education Institutes or Universities for one academic year in the frame of this Bachelor or Master scholarship programme can apply for one more year scholarship. The extension of their scholarship will be given according to academic results.

4th - Research programme - Programme de bourses de recherche

Applicant must:

  • be at most 35 years.
  • have registered for PhD in a recognized Indian university / institute;
  • have published at least ONE peer-reviewed research article;
  • have a confirmed recommendation letter from French university / institute in predetermined format.


TERMS OF AWARD

Scholarship benefits could include following grants depending on the commission:

  • monthly stipend of 615 Euros (maximum) for students at undergraduate or master level, and 770 Euros (maximum) for PhD students
  • overseas medical insurance coverage
  • round trip pre-paid air ticket
  • tuition fees waiver

The French Embassy is not obliged to respond to the candidate, if application is incomplete
Incomplete application will not be considered for selection of scholarship

APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR THE 1st, 2nd and 3rd SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES

The application form must be completed online. Fields marked with star sign * are mandatory.
Time schedule: Usually there is a period of one or two months gap between the last date of the application and the selection committee’s decision.

Based on the online submission of the application, a pre-selection will be done. Then only preselected candidates are advised to send:

  • Print out of the online application submitted
  • Photograph (3 x 3.5 cms.)
  • Curriculum Vitae (max. 3 pages)
  • Admission/invitation/acceptance letter of French Higher Educational Institution
  • produce a statement of purpose, highlighting the reasons for choosing France and the institution to which he/se has applied/been admitted and his/her plans upon completion of the course. The student must also justify why he/she would be a worthy candidate for the scholarship. (Max. One page)
  • Attested (by gazetted officer or the head of the institute where one studied/is studying) copies of pass certificates & mark sheets of Secondary School (X), Higher Secondary School (XII), Bachelor's & master's degrees
  • French language certificate, if any (from Alliance Française in India/recognised universities)
  • NOC from the institute for the students going for internship/exchange program
